History
Since 1967, the Pittsburgh Penguins have been a favourite for NHL fans who love the offensive game. As early as 1975, the Penguins showed that they were interested in an exciting offensive game, attempting to outscore opponents with scoring talent grouped on one line and used exhaustively throughout the game. Some early players included Peter Mahovlich, Rick Kehoe and Pierre Larouche.
After a few bad trades and even worse seasons, the Penguins decided to do whatever they could to secure the #1 position in the 1984 NHL entry draft – including intentionally losing games to secure last place and first pick in the upcoming draft. The goal was to get the coveted prospect Mario Lemieux. The strategy would pave the way for 2 Stanley cups in the 1990’s, and one of the most offensively talented teams in the history of the NHL. The dynasty consisted of current and future hall of famers such as Mari Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr, Ron Francis, Joe Mullen, Larry Murphy, Paul Coffey & Bryan Trottier.

Sidney Crosby & Evgeni Malkin
The Penguins continued to add offensive talents after their Stanley Cups, including notables Alexei Kovalev, Sergei Zubov and Peter Nedved. But nothing could prepare the hockey world for the offensive juggernaut that came into existence in when Evgeni “Geno” Malkin and Sydney “Sid the Kid” Crosby were added to the roster. Both have won the Art Ross, Hart Trophy, and a Stanley Cup with Evgeni Malkin also picking up the Calder Trophy in his rookie season and a Lindsay Award and Crosby grabbing the Muarice “Rocket” Richard Trophy in 2010.

Winning a Stanley cup in 2009 along with teammates Matt Cooke, Sergei Gonchar, Jordan Staal and Miroslav Satan, the duo has become the #1 offensive threat in the NHL. With current notable teammates the likes of James Neal, Kris Letang, and Marc Andre Fleury, the Pittsburgh Penguins don’t look to be slowing down any time soon.
